Milo Yiannopoulos has caused quite a stir since arriving in Australia for his tour, to say the least, with the violent protests breaking out in Melbourne upon his arrival.
He is a lewd, walking contradiction, for example he is gay, yet doesn't really stick up for the LGBT community and appeals to many conservatives for his strong right winged views.
Yiannopoulos is against political correctness and has helped support white supremacist views when he worked as a journalist. He has stirred the pot with feminists down under by plastering a picture of Clementine Ford and labelling her 'unfuckable'. He is against feminism and labels it cancer.
He has labelled muslims as 'rapists' and 'terrorists', has expressed a view that underage sex can be consensual and refers to victims of child sexual abuse as 'attention seekers'.
Milo Yiannopoulos is either genuinely confused about who he is or he knows exactly what he's doing, which is causing a stir to the general population and the more attention we pay to it, the more attention he gets.
Yiannopoulos started his life as an attention seeking stirrer. He has dropped out of university twice. He had a life of privilege but never managed to do anything meaningful. He may talk with a posh accent but all you have to do is scratch the surface and you will find that he's just full of thoughtless easy labels and ignorance. His audience finding him easy to understand and identify with.
He certainly has a lot to say, but a shallow brook will always babble the loudest.
'Shut him up!' is the common rhetoric from protesters, 'Don't let him speak in parliament'! There are petitions going around social media to prevent him from talking in Australia.
The truth is that we can try to prevent him from talking as much as we want but just like Pauline Hanson's views may not be popular with most, there is still an appetite for right winged views. We cannot be the thought police of other individuals. Yiannopoulos wouldn't have an audience if other people didn't agree with what he says.
He is not an influencer of the Australian people he is merely voicing the views of what was already there.
Milo Yiannopoulos is not a member of the australian parliament.
He is not a real game changer, he is a uneducated, attention seeking, sunglass-wearing fly, that will buzz away back to the UK once his tour has finished.
His words do not shock me and he shouldn't shock you either.
In the mean time, can we please keep Paul McCartney?
